Tea for Diabetes and Other Natural Diabetes Aids

Have you heard of a special tea for diabetes? There are tons of natural supplements and aids marketed for diabetes out there today. Let’s take a look at some of them! Read on to learn more…

Tea for Diabetes

You’ve seen the commercials. Perhaps you’ve browsed the tea section of your local health food store. There is a tea for almost every ailment known to man, but what is actually in these miracle aids?

Most of the time when you see a tea for diabetes, it contains a few key ingredients. Cinnamon, mint, and, of course, green tea leaves. Other helpful ingredients include pomegranate and other high-antioxidant fruits.

Research shows that cinnamon can help reduce blood glucose levels by about 25%. It works by imitating insulin and helping your body’s cells use insulin better.

Researchers have had mixed results with this, but there is no harm in taking cinnamon.

Some studies suggest that peppermint may reduce blood sugar levels. Mint also aids in digestion, can help upset stomach, and reduce cholesterol.

Green Tea

Studies have shown that green tea reduces blood glucose levels. It is high in polyphenols, which are chemicals that help the body in many ways.

According to Life Extension magazine:

  • Polyphenols found in fruits and vegetables are potent antioxidants, particularly those in cocoa, green tea, chokeberry, and apples.

  • Polyphenols also have beneficial effects on the endothelial lining of blood vessels by increasing the availability of nitric oxide, and by preventing the lipid oxidation underlying atherosclerosis.

  • The typical Western diet lacks sufficient amounts and variety of plant polyphenols to be of optimal benefit.

  • Polyphenols from different plants may work synergistically to protect against cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, endothelial dysfunction, and other chronic diseases, without any known side effects.

Other Fruits

You will often find fruits such as pomegranate, blackberry, goji berry, and other high-antioxidant fruits infused into green tea and other tea for diabetes. These are full of the polyphenols we just discussed.

Other Natural Diabetes Aids

Chromium Picolinate is a mineral that can help the body use insulin more efficiently. This helps improve blood sugar levels. It also helps prevent cardiovascular (heart) disease.

According to the NCBI,

“Chromium picolinate, specifically, has been shown to reduce insulin resistance and to help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. Dietary chromium is poorly absorbed. Chromium levels decrease with age. Supplements containing 200-1,000 mcg chromium as chromium picolinate a day have been found to improve blood glucose control.”

Aloe Vera

This plant has been used by many people for a long time. It is known for its healing properties when applied to the skin. It is highly moisturizing and has many uses. What people don’t often realize is that it is helpful for diabetes as well.

You can drink aloe juice, add the pulp to drinks, or take prepared supplements. Aloe helps increase the amount of insulin the pancreas produces in type 2 diabetics. It also helps reduce blood glucose levels.

Bitter Melon

This melon is an acquired taste, but the health benefits are unquestionable. Bitter Melon can help the body reduce blood sugar levels. The seeds, pulp, juice, and powdered supplements all work to help.

This herb has the ability to help lactating mothers produce more milk, but did you know it can help fight diabetes symptoms?

Fenugreek can help increase insulin levels in people with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes. This way it helps control blood glucose levels. Many people with prediabetes who began taking fenugreek have been able to keep from becoming type 2 diabetics.

Milk Thistle

This plant has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can help with diabetes. It is a great supplement to add to your regimen. Inflammation is a problem that most diabetics face and milk thistle can combat that.

When I began my research for tea for diabetes, Gymnema Teas kept recurring in my results, so I took a closer look at this herb. Research shows both the ground leaf or leaf extract improve diabetes in Type 1 and Type 2.

With Type 1 diabetes, this herb reduces fasting blood glucose levels over time. In type 2 diabetics, the herb increases insulin production and reduces blood sugar levels.

This is widely available in tea form. I saw probably 6 or 7 brands of Gymnema tea on Amazon.

This herb/spice is widely known for its health benefits. You can add a bit of turmeric to anything. It’s strong yellow/orange color may change the color of your food, but its flavor in small quantities is mellow.

Turmeric has anti-inflammatory qualities that can help with many of the complications of diabetes, such as high blood pressure.

Brown Seaweed

Research has shown seaweed to be beneficial in weight loss and blood sugar control. Weight loss can have massive effects on blood glucose and sometimes even put Type 2 diabetes into remission.

Combination Supplements

Wouldn’t it be great if we could just combine all the above herbs and plants into one supplement? I haven’t found one yet, but I have one that contains several of the helpers we’ve discussed today!

Not to “toot our own horn” or anything, but Bioterra Herbs’ Blood Glucose supplement is amazing at keeping blood sugar levels under control. You can click on the image to learn more about and purchase this supplement.
